The Film Employees Federation of South India (FEFSI) and human rights organization staged a protest on Wednesday at South Indian Film Artistes’ Association, Chennai condemning a report on actors published in a Tamil daily recently.

Actors including Rajinikanth, Vijayakanth, Surya, Karthi Sivakumar, Arun Vijay, Radhika, Revathi, Sripriya, Uravasi and directors Selvamani, Cheran, Ramesh Kanna were among those who took part in the protest. South Indian Film Artistes’ Association president R. Sarath Kumar and its secretary Radha Ravi also participated.

Stressing the need for exercising restraint while, publishing reports on actors, Rajinikanth said that it is important for newspapers, to become sensitive to the emotions of people, when publishing defamatory reports. Actor Surya and director Selvamani suggested that FEFSI should have legal cell to deal with such reports.

Actor turned politician Vijayakanth said that press freedom should not be misused and media should avoid hurting sentiments of people. Actors Revathi, Seetha, Rohini and Nalini condemned the media report and urged the film industry to stay united in times of crises.

Earlier, members from All India Democratic Women’s Association and women members of FEFSI raised slogans against the Tamil daily and demanded legal action against those responsible for the report.

Tamil actress Bhuvaneswari (Bhuvaneshwari), who was recently arrested by Chennai Police under the charges of running flesh trade in her Adyar apartment, is now all set to write a tell-all-book. It is said that in her autobiography (memoir), the actress will disclose the secrets about several Tamil models and actresses, who are involved in her sex racket.

Earlier, she had claimed that several actresses and models were involved in the flesh trade in Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh and she would reveal all their secrets. After she made it clear about her autobiography, the Tamil film industry is said to be considering her words seriously.

Meanwhile, she has said that there is no meaning in the charges made against her. She is not the part of any flesh trade. She has challenged to prove the allegation if anybody has witness about the prostitution business. The Chennai Police have begun investigation for more information about her network.

However, the Chennai Police had raided Bhuvaneswari’s house in Adyar under the suspicion of running a brothel earlier this week and arrested her with two other models, who were engaged in her trade. She has acted in a number of films including Shankar's Boys and like Bharathi Raja's serial 'Therkathi Ponnu'. She was earlier arrested by Chennai Police in 2002, but released later.

The latest buzz doing the rounds in Kollywood is that the Vijay starrer Vettaikkaran, which will not be making it to a Diwali release, ran into trouble when the cast and crew were denied a visa for Australia.

The crew was due to travel to Australia to shoot a song featuring Vijay and Anushka. But for undisclosed reasons, the visa was denied and the director had to settle for a location in Pune where superstar Rajinikanth’s song Ballelakka with Nayanthara for the film Sivaji was shot.

Insiders reveal that Vijay will be doing a hi-tech number with Anushka at this location and again in Mumbai with Bollywood dancers later this month. Meanwhile, the details of Vijay’s 50th film Sura, have been finalised, Dev Gil, who played the main villain in Ram Charan Teja’s Magadheera, has been signed on as the villian. Actress Bhuvaneshwari who was recently arrested by Chennai police in a prostitution racket has stirred up a storm yet again. A leading Tamil daily has allegedly published Bhuvaneshwari’s ‘confession’ of the list of other actresses who are involved in the flesh trade.

As a protest against this, leading stars from Kollywood visited the office of Chennai Police commissioner and demanded action against the daily for carrying out flase news. The newspaper has now carried a regret note for the report.

Police Commissioner, T Rajendran, told the actors delegation, led by South Indian Artiste Association president Sarath Kumar, that Bhuvaneswari, who is in jail, had not made any such statement. According to sources, South India Artists Association has decided to file complaint against the newspaper in the Press Council of India and also defamatory case against the daily paper that had listed the name of actresses.

Bhuvaneswari was arrested on Friday night (October 4) by the Chennai police on allegations of prostitution. It is said that Bhuvaneshwari has been allegedly running this racket from her apartment at Adayar in Chennai where she was arrested.

Popular South Indian actress Nayantara (Nayanthara) is finally set to enter Kannada films. Crazy star V Ravichandran is introducing her to Kannada audiences through his forthcoming movie Keechaka (Kichaka). Besides acting, he has also taken the responsibility of directing it.

The film Keechaka has two heroines and along with Nayan, popular actress Jayaprada will play another lead lady. This is the first film, which features Jayaprada and V Ravichandran together. Ravi is playing double roles. After the movie Ekangi, he will once again be playing father and son.

Actor Ravichandran started the trend of bringing non-Kannada actress to Kannada films. He has introduced actress like Juhi Chawla (Premloka), Khushboo (Randaheera), Poonam Dhillon (Yuddakaanda) and Namitha (Neelakanta, Hoo). Now he is adding one more actress to his list.

Presently, Ravichandran is busy shooting his forthcoming movie Manjina Hani. The film Keechaka will start shooting from October 18. Nayantara will star alongside Ravichandran, while Jaya will act with his father in the movie.

Actress Khushbu still shudders with fear when she thinks of the narrow escape she had at the Pulau Redang Island in Malaysia, when a huge tidal wave swept the island recently.

Recounting her experience, Khushbu says, “I had visited my husband Sundar C with my kids at the Pulau Redang Island where he was shooting for his next film, Guru Sishyan with his unit. While Sundar was with us on the 29th floor of the hotel, the unit members were returning to the hotel in a ferry. That’s when the huge tidal wave hit the island and the entire hotel building shook. We couldn’t contact the unit as the mobile phone signal went low. They finally reached the hotel safe and sound after four-and-a-half hours. The ride generally takes just forty minutes. I thank God for the second lease of life.”

The word Chennai seems to be lucky for Asin. In her debut Telugu film Amma Nana O Tamil Ammayi she was called Chennai and in her forthcoming film London Dreams Salman calls her Chennai Express. "Whenever Salman would call me Chennai, my thoughts would go back to my shooting stints in Hyderabad. Puri Jagannath was such an amazing director, he made me so comfortable. Doing the film was a joy," says Asin.

The pretty actress lives in the same apartment where veteran actress Sri Devi stays. "Sri Devi ma'am is my neighbour. She stays on the first floor and I'm on the sixth of the same building," she added.

Asin is excited being paired opposite top heroes in Hindi Film Industry in her first two films and hoping to pair with all the Khans and every hero in Bollywood. In her future projects she is pairing opposite Akshay Kumar, Abhishek Bachchan and Ranbir Kapoor. Other than Hindi films her future projects include a South Indian film in 2010.

Meanwhile, Asin's upcoming film London Dreams, directed by Vipul Shah is due to release on October 30th. Asin is paired opposite Salman Khan and Ajay Devgan in this film. Immediately, she dresses up like the frustrated Anushka in ‘Arundhathi’ and throws him into extreme shock.

Sunaina did complete the shot with perfection with a single take and it was a wonderful act. It nearly took 90mins to complete the facial makeover”.

The film will be completed within a short period of time and is set to hit screens in January.

Kamal Hassan sues Saimira for Rs 11 cr compensation

Actor Kamal Hassan has filed a case in the Madras High Court against Pyramid Saimira Production International Ltd, (PSTL) T. Nagar, and its director K.S. Srinivasan, seeking a direction to pay him Rs.11 crore with interest for the loss he suffered due to the restrictions on him by Marmayogi MoU with the company.

In the suit, the actor and Raajkamal Films International said an agreement was signed in April last year between Raajkamal Films and the company for the production of the film Marmayogi. Kamal Hassan executed the MoU.


Production of film commenced in March last year itself. The actor had not only directed some inaugural scenes, but also acted in them. A song was sung by him. He played the recorded song around last week of August. Around this period, he received very good offers to act from other producers including Ramesh Sippy and Walt Disney, but had to refuse them as he had to act only in Marmayogi as per the MoU. The plaintiffs alleged that after July 30, 2008, the defendants did not make further payments.

If the entertainment company had not restricted him, he would have acted in other movies. Still, he would have taken care of the direction and acting in Marmayogi. By not disclosing their real financial position, by restricting him from acting in any other picture, and by not paying him the entire remuneration, the defendants had caused a loss of over Rs.40 crore to him, the suit said.

Kamal Hassan also filed an application seeking an interim injunction to restrain the defendants from making any statement relating to the agreement to anyone without the court’s permission. The court has posted the matter for October 9 for counter.

Meanwhile, as ordered by the High Court earlier in another case for the release of the film Unnaipol Oruvan, Kamal Hassan and others filed a memo stating that bank guarantee for Rs.3.91 crore had been furnished. Pyramid Saimira’s counsel submitted that only for one year the guarantee had been furnished. Justice G. Rajasuria said it was for the plaintiff to make arrangements for renewal, pending disposal of the suit.
