Parvathy Omanakuttan at Miss World 2008 pageant

Parvathy Omanakuttan at Miss World 2008 pageant

Everyone is praying for Parvathy Omanakuttan’s victory at the Miss World 2008 beauty pageant to be held in Johannesburg on December 13th.

This beauty from Kerala has been in the news ever since she won her first beauty pageant Miss Malayali 2005. Even before winning Miss India World 2008, this beauty had been deluged with film offers from North and South. And Parvathy too is quite interested in films, especially Bollywood and Kollywood movies!

With a perfectly beautiful smile, a flawless complexion, a gorgeous body and tons of confidence, Parvathy Omanakuttan is on the brink of becoming the national pride by winning this prestigious competition. Almost the entire nation is looking forward to her victory with great eagerness, for she represents the beauty of Indian femininity and her victory will put India on the pedestal once again.

But none can be as eager as Kollywood, who also have their own pride to keep up! Wondering why?! Kollywood has had a special and longstanding connection with Miss World beauty pageant winners! Except for Diana Hayden (1997), all other Indians who won Miss World titles made their acting debut in Kollywood films! It provided them a great platform to showcase their talent and the right start. Sometimes Kollywood had to undertake a great deal of effort in convincing them to act or start their career with a Tamil film. But none of the actresses ever regretted her decision to start a career with a Kollywood film and everyone tasted super stardom. But with Parvathy having announced her interest in Southern films, it would take little effort for Kollywood to rope her in and keep its tradition alive.

Tamil film industry has converted many Miss World title winners into actresses in the past with great alacrity. Check out the following list:

Aishwarya Rai started her career in Mani Ratnam’s Iruvar (1997) after winning the title in 1994; Yukta Mookhey won the title in 1999 and debuted in Poovellam Un Vaasam (2001); Priyanka Chopra made her debut in Tamizhan (2001) opposite Vijay after she won the Miss World title in 2000.

PS: Reita Faria, the first Indian to be crowned Miss World in 1966, clearly announced that she had no ambitions of acting in films or modelling.
