FeTNA bans Asin Thottumkal's movies

Asin Thottumkal's Sri Lankan visit is turning out to be a nightmare for the actress as Federation of Tamil Sangams of North America (FeTNA) has decided to boycott her movies. Asin, who went to the Island nation for the Bollywood movie Ready is facing the wrath of Tamil organizations.

“The Federation of Tamil Sangams of North America will boycott films of Asin because of her visit to Sri Lanka despite a ban by the Tamil film industry.” Indiatimes quoted FeTNA chief Palani Sundaram as saying.

FeTNA is an umbrella organization of many local North American Tamil organizations. It represents more than 30 local organizations.

Now, South Indian Film Artistes Association (SIFAA) has formed a committee to look into this matter. Meanwhile, Asin says that she has already spoken to SIFAA chief Sarath Kumar and she will respect committees stand on her Sri Lankan visit.

Earlier, SIFAA had warned actors not to travel to Colombo for IIFA awards and threaten to boycott film festival. Many actors like Amitabh Bachchan, Shahrukh Khan, Namitha, Genelia and others cancelled their trip at the eleventh hour. But, the stars like Salman Khan, Vivek Oberoi, Saif Ali Khan, Hrithik Roshan, Lara Dutta and others attended film fest and now they have been banned. (OI)

She is known as the bubbly beauty of the Indian cinema and though she has been seen as the decent and a rather chirpy girl with a decent approach to her roles and image, she now seems to have revealed that there is enough oomph in her that can get the crowds into frenzy. She is none other than Genelia and after having ruled the roost in the Telugu circuit, she is currently cementing her place in the Bollywood circuit.

Recently, Genelia was to do a photo shoot in Mumbai near the Bandra- Worli sea link along with her co-star Shahid Kapur. This was for their new movie that is being directed by Ken Ghosh and all was well till Shahid did his bit. However, jaws dropped and eyes popped out when Genelia emerged in a rather short skirt that revealed her luscious legs and she was gearing up to do an intimate photo shoot with Shahid. This triggered the folks that came around to watch the shoot but in no time, they began to increase in number.

Soon, the mob frenzy got a bit over excited and a few began to get on top of the fort and over the stones trying to get a closer look at Genelia and her legs. This raised the alarm in the unit members who did not have the thought that they are supposed to have security while doing such shoots. However, the cops did arrive but the extent of the gathering crowds was so high that they realized that nothing much can be done right now. On the other hand, it was getting tough for Shahid and Genelia to actually come out of their vans to get on with the photo shoot. Moreover, the light was fading and the cops soon told the unit they have no other choice but to pack up their shoot and schedule it for another day.

While some say that this was a rather callous move by the makers without not having enough security while doing such sort of shoot, there is a concern that one day things might go out of hand. For now, the sight of Genelia in an extremely short skirt and oozing out her oomph in the form of her lovely legs has become the talk of the town.

Manjari Phadnis, who moved down south after a teeny-weeny stint in Bollywood with Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na, is feeling quite at home here. In fact, after the success of her first Telugu film, Sidhu from Srikakulam opposite Allari Naresh, Manjari is convinced that the grass is greener in Tollywood. With yet another Telugu film, Inkosari, in her kitty already, who’d want to settle down for second lead roles in Bollywood? Calling her journey so far “mind blowing and fun,” she says, “The film industry in the south works differently from Bollywood and you get to learn a lot more here.”

She further adds, “South Indians are down to earth, simple and warm, so I am quite comfortable working here. The language was quite a challenge but now I can comprehend Telugu.”

Critics may say the bubbly Genelia overshadowed her completely in Jaane Tu, and hence this decision to move to a different industry, but the pretty actress insists, “Bollywood offers came pouring in after Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na but I am selective about my work. I didn’t want to take up just about any project that came my way.”

Happy she may be, her sojourn in the south has been one fraught with controversies. Recently, stories of her passionate lip lock with the Tollywood star Nithin in a Tamil flick, Muthirai sent the media into a tizzy. In fact, the actor went to town talking about how Manjari was initially reluctant but later gave in to the “demands of the script”. But Manjari rubbishes it all as a mere publicity stunt, in which she played no part of course! “I was shocked to hear these rumours. I never kissed Nithin. I don’t understand why he had to lie to the media. An article about this even stated that I gave in to the demand of the script. How can a kiss be integral to the script?”

Having cleared the confusion, Manjari calms down and recounts her experience of working with Tollywood heroes. “I have worked with Naresh, Raja and Nithin. All of them are different in their own way and I have got to learn something from each one of my co-actors,” says Manjari diplomatically.

She may have played the role of a bimbette to perfection in Jaane Tu, but in real life she is quite different from the Meghna that she plays in the movie. Manjari is a student of Shiamak Davar and has also trained in classical music. “I have sung a duet for Muthirai with Nresh Iyer. In future I want to act in musicals, where I can sing for myself,” she adds. But at present it’s comic roles that she is eyeing. “Sridevi has been a huge inspiration. She has an uncanny knack for comedy. I really want to do the kind of comic roles that she did,” reveals Manjari. [DC]

Speaking from Hyderabad where she is shooting for a Telugu thriller, Genelia is majorly excited about having signed Ken Ghosh’s Yahoo, where she plays a choreographer. “It’s my first film with Shahid Kapoor who is a phenomenal dancer; and I’m nervous as hell at the thought of having to match steps with him,’’ she says.

The Mumbai girl says she did hear that Jiah Khan was earlier to play her role; but adds, “I accepted the role because it is challenging for me as an actor.
