FeTNA bans Asin Thottumkal's movies

August 2, 2010

Asin Thottumkal's Sri Lankan visit is turning out to be a nightmare for the actress as Federation of Tamil Sangams of North America (FeTNA) has decided to boycott her movies. Asin, who went to the Island nation for the Bollywood movie Ready is facing the wrath of Tamil organizations.

The Federation of Tamil Sangams of North America will boycott films of Asin because of her visit to Sri Lanka despite a ban by the Tamil film industry.” Indiatimes quoted FeTNA chief Palani Sundaram as saying.

FeTNA is an umbrella organization of many local North American Tamil organizations. It represents more than 30 local organizations.

Now, South Indian Film Artistes Association (SIFAA) has formed a committee to look into this matter. Meanwhile, Asin says that she has already spoken to SIFAA chief Sarath Kumar and she will respect committees stand on her Sri Lankan visit.

Earlier, SIFAA had warned actors not to travel to Colombo for IIFA awards and threaten to boycott film festival. Many actors like Amitabh Bachchan, Shahrukh Khan, Namitha, Genelia and others cancelled their trip at the eleventh hour. But, the stars like Salman Khan, Vivek Oberoi, Saif Ali Khan, Hrithik Roshan, Lara Dutta and others attended film fest and now they have been banned. (OI)

Kollywood to ban Asin?

Kollywood to ban Asin?

July 5, 2010

Popular actor Asin is likely to face a ban on acting in Tamil films for having shot a portion of her upcoming Hindi flick ’Ready’ in Sri Lanka. A decision on her ban is expected to be made by the Tamil film industry in a couple of days.

'Ready' is the remake of the Telugu film by the same name, in which Salman Khan and Asin reprise the roles of Ram and Genelia respectively.

Asin’s fate in the Tamil industry will be decided at a meeting of all federations. Asin has returned to Tamil films after a two-year break, with Vijay’s next film ’Kaavalkaran’.

The ban is being mooted owing to the Tamil film industry’s boycott of Sri Lanka for the inhuman treatment meted out to the Tamil refugees in the island country. The statement issued by the Tamil film industry on May 28 about participation of actors in IFFA 2010, held in Sri Lanka, however, does not ban any actor for shooting for a non-south Indian film in Sri Lanka. It states, "From now, shooting for south Indian films and cultural events will not be held in Sri Lanka." It added that actors and technicians who participate in IFFA 2010 would not be extended professional cooperation by the south Indian film industry. (CHIT)

Salman-Asin to shoot Ready in Sri Lanka

June 15, 2010

Even before the hangover of a spectacular Videocon IIFA Weekend 2010 subsides, it seems like the host country, Sri Lanka, has already begun reaping the benefits of playing host to IIFA's magnificent 11th edition. Recognizing the gorgeousness of the island nation, and the welcoming warmth received by the Indian Film Fraternity during another magical IIFA weekend, Anees Bazmee's new film Ready, produced by T-Series and starring Salman Khan and Asin Thottumkal in lead roles, will now be filmed in Sri Lanka, beginning 20th June, 2010. The movie's location for shooting was originally scheduled to be Mauritius, but after enjoying a beautiful locale like Colombo during the Videocon IIFA Weekend, there was much enthusiasm to change the location to Sri Lanka.

It may be recalled that in the absence of the Bachchan parivar and Shahrukh Khan at the recently held IIFA weekend in Colombo, it was none other than Salman Khan who was the main attraction at this extravaganza. The actor, who played a key role in the IIFA Hands for Humanity Project, as the Brand Ambassador for Charity, thoroughly appreciated the kindness and generosity of the Sri Lankans and claims to be thrilled about returning to the neighbouring island.

Sri Lanka is undoubtedly excited to welcome the whole cast of Ready. It seems like the exuberant aura of Sri Lanka, that received global recognition at the Videocon IIFA Weekend will prove to be a big plus for this host country in the days to come. (OI)

Udhayathara interacts with media

Udhayathara interacts with media

December 4, 2009

Udhayathara while interacting with the media said,” Udhayathara means rising star. I am donning the role of a Sri Lankan Tamil girl in the film Vilai directed by Kamaraj. In this film Bharani and Saravanan who acted in Nadodigal are also acting with me. This film has different kind of story. The heroine is given more importance than the hero. That is why I agreed to act in this film. After this I am acting in the film titled Unnai Nan Arivein. Vijayakhanna is directing this film. Muhammad Ali is doing the lead role.

In Bayam Ariyaan I have donned the role of a bubbly girl. The shooting of the film is over and the film is to hit the screens soon. I will definitely act in glamour roles if the story demands. Even in the film Kannum Kannum though I have donned the homely role, I have acted glamorously in the song sequences.”
